Approval granted for Meiji Jingu Gaien redevelopment
On February 17, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government issued development approval for the 349 billion Yen (US$2.6 billion) Meiji Jingu Gaien redevelopment. This site includes the Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Stadium and the historic Meiji Jingu Baseball Stadium.
Mita Koyamacho Redevelopment to be completed by 2028
More progress has been made on the Mita Koyamacho West District Redevelopment near Azabujuban Station with the Tokyo Governor approving the developers’ rights conversion plans last December.
Hotel Okura South Wing redevelopment to start in 2024
Construction of a 225-meter tall tower to replace the former Hotel Okura South Wing building in Roppongi will start in 2024, with completion scheduled for 2028.
35-story tower for Kyobashi
Tokyo Tatemono is planning a 35-story, 180-meter-tall high-rise for Kyobashi. Construction will start in 2025 with completion tentatively scheduled for 2029. A city planning decision was granted on January 13.
Apartment buildings taking longer to redevelop
There have been 282 documented cases of condominium-style apartment buildings rebuilt across Japan, according to a report published by Tokyo Kantei last month.
26-story office and apartment tower for Iidabashi
On October 12, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government approved the formation of the committee for the Iidabashi Station East District Redevelopment. This will see a 130-meter tall, 26-story office and apartment tower built next door to Iidabashi Station.
Imperial Theatre to be demolished
The Teigeki, or Imperial Theatre, in Marunouchi will temporarily close in 2025 as the building undergoes redevelopment.
