According to Tokyo Kantei, the average rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,536 Yen/sqm in 2013. This is the first time in 4 years that the average annual rent has seen an increase.

In 2012, the average rent in Tokyo's 23-ku was getting close to falling below 3,000 Yen/sqm, but by 2013 it began to climb upwards again. Rents in surrounding cities have remained relatively stable over the past few years. According to AtHome, 18,415 apartment rental contracts were signed in greater Tokyo in November, down 1.7% from the previous year. In Tokyo's 23-ku, however, the number of contracts increased by 0.9% to 8,415. Read more

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,552 Yen/sqm, in November, up 0.8% from the previous month and up 3.4% from last year. The average apartment size was 58.87 sqm (633 sqft) and the average building age was 19.0 years.

In Tokyo's 23-ku, the average monthly rent was 3,111 Yen/sqm, up 1.0% from the previous month and up 4.2% from last year. This is the highest it has been since February 2011. The average apartment size was 55.70 sqm (599 sqft) and the average building age was 17.6 years.Read more

October rental apartment transactions - AtHome

According to AtHome's data on rental transactions in greater Tokyo for the month of October, the number of new rental contracts signed fell 3.4% from October 2012 to 18,668.

In Tokyo's 23-ku, 8,490 contracts were signed, down 0.7% from last year. This is the first time in 12 months that the figure has fallen below last year's figure. Apartments less than 30 sqm (323 sqft) in size comprised 46.2% of transactions, down 6.7 points from October 2012. Meanwhile, 37.4% of transactions were for apartments 30 ~ 50 sqm (323 ~ 538 sqft) in size, up 9 points from last year. Apartments over 70 sqm (753 sqft) made up 3.8% of transactions, down 9.4 points from 2012.Read more
