According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo in January was 2,574 Yen/sqm, up 1.6% from January 2013 and up 2.4% from the previous month. The average apartment size was 58.86 sqm and the average building age was 19.0 years.

The average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,146 Yen, up 2.3% from last year and up 0.7% from the previous month. The average apartment size as 55.49 sqm and the average building age was 17.4 years.

Average monthly rent per sqm in January 2014:

  • Tokyo 23-ku: 3,025 Yen (+1.6% from last year; +0.4% from the previous month)
  • Yokohama City: 2,148 Yen (-2.1%; +0.2%)
  • Saitama City: 1,816 Yen (+0.6%; +1.9%)
  • Chiba City: 1,482 Yen (+1.4%; -1.5%)
  • Osaka City: 2,191 Yen (+6.2%; +0.4%)
  • Kobe City: 1,806 Yen (+0.9%; +0.2%)
  • Nagoya City: 1,663 Yen (-1.7%; +2.0%)

*Data is based on the average advertised rent of family-type condominiums which may be higher than the actual rent after negotiations. It does not include apartments less than 30 sqm in size, commercial or retail spaces.
