The exterior and rooftop design for the newest retail complex at the crossing above Meiji-Jingumae Station in Harajuku has been released.
The site is located in a prime retail position at the corner of Omotesando Avenue and Meiji Dori Street. Across the intersection is Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku – a 7-story retail complex that opened in 2012. The new building will have almost double the floor space and will be 5 meters taller than Tokyu Plaza.
Architect Akihisa Hirata is in charge of exterior and roof design. Construction is expected to be complete by 2022. The total project cost is estimated at around 18 billion Yen, excluding land price. Landholders include Colombia Co., Tokyo Metro, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and Tokyu Land. As part of the redevelopment, Tokyu Land paid between 11 ~ 12 billion Yen for the former OIympia Annex building that stood on part of the site in 2013.
