Tokyo Department Store and Bunkamura to be redeveloped
Tokyu’s main department store and adjoining Bunkamura hall facility in Shibuya will be demolished in 2023 to make way for a new development.
Aoyama Asia Mansion being redeveloped
Asahi Kasei Realty & Residence Corporation and World Residential Co. are starting work on the redevelopment of the former Aoyama Asia Mansion in Shibuya this month. The 5-story, 60-year old condo was demolished in 2020 and will be replaced with a 14-story apartment tower.
100+ year old home in Shibuya saved from demolition
The historic former home of Tamanosuke Kume (1861-1931, a politician and civil engineer, will be relocated to a city-center location in Kume’s hometown of Numata, Gunma Prefecture. Demolition was initially scheduled to start on September 1, but the home has been spared thanks to the efforts of local preservationists.

The 46-story Shibuya Scramble Square East Building officially opens today. At a height of 230 meters, this is now the tallest building in the Shibuya area.

Shibuya onsen to be converted into shared office space
An office conversion is planned for a long-shuttered spa and onsen building in downtown Shibuya. Shiespa, located 600 meters from Shibuya Station, opened in 2006 as a women-only spa and onsen. It closed its doors in August 2007 and has sat vacant ever since.
