Political power spot in Chiyoda to be rebuilt
The building that once housed the head office of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is going to be demolished and rebuilt starting next year. In recent years the 58-year old building has become increasingly worn out. The decision to rebuild was made after an inspection in 2014 found that the structure did not meet current earthquake-resistant standards.
A new building design will be selected in September and demolition will begin from April 2016. The new building is expected to be 7-storeys and should be completed sometime in 2018.Read more
Final chapter for Tokyo's Chongryon HQ
Rather than hold a third auction, the Tokyo District Court announced plans to sell the foreclosed Chongryon headquarters in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo to a real estate company from Takamatsu City in Kagawa Prefecture. If there are no problems with Marunaka Holdings' paperwork, the final decision regarding the sale will be made on March 24.Read more
British Govt to return 20% of Tokyo Embassy land to Japan
The British Embassy in Tokyo is going to become a little smaller next year as the British government has decided to return a portion of the land.
The embassy is sprawled across a 35,000 sqm (376,600 sqft) estate just west of the Imperial Castle in Chiyoda-ku. The land has been leased by the British government since 1872. The US and Spain are the only other countries that lease their embassy land in Tokyo from the Japanese government.

Apartments in the brand new, luxury high-rise condominium "Waterras Tower Residence" have now been completely sold out, just weeks before the building is scheduled to be completed.
The 41-storey mixed-use building has a total of 333 apartments of which 253 were made available for sale. Prices ranged from 55.8 to 300 million Yen with the average apartment priced at 1,225,000 Yen/sqm. Apartments range in size from 45.14 ~ 146.93 sqm (485 ~ 1581 sqft). Approximately 30% of the apartments were priced over 100 million Yen.Read more
1927 Kudanshita Bldg to be demolished
The 85-year old Kudanshita Building in Kandajinbocho, Chiyoda-ku, will soon be demolished once the last remaining occupant moves out.
Kudanshita Bldg is a multi-tenant building in Kandajinbocho, Chiyoda-ku. It's original name was Imagawakouji Cooperative Building. Completed in 1927, the Kudanshita Building is one of Tokyo's landmark buildings completed during the reconstruction following the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. The local shopkeepers whose premises were destroyed in the earthquake had pooled their savings together to construct this building. At the time they were each given an ownership share of the property.Read more
