New apartment prices in Tokyo’s 23 wards still not at bubble high, but close
In 2021 the average price of a brand new apartment released for sale across greater Tokyo reached the highest level in history, beating a record high set during the asset bubble years of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Luxury rental apartments added to Torch Tower
A recent use-change will see some luxury rental apartments added to Japan’s tallest tower-to-be. On January 8, the Nikkei Shimbun newspaper reported that the 390-meter tall Torch Tower, on the northern side of Tokyo Station, will have around 50 apartments with monthly rents ranging from 1 ~ 5 million Yen (approx. US$8,650 ~ $43,200). The largest apartment will be in the 400 sqm (4,300 sq.ft) range.
Construction starts on Nihonbashi high-rise
Construction has now started on a 52-story mixed-use development alongside Nihonbashi River. The 284-meter tall tower will include 100 luxury residences on the top four floors. A further 50 apartments will be included in the 7-story low-rise building alongside the river.
Karuizawa resort condos sell out
On November 29, real estate company ES-CON JAPAN announced that all 37 resort-style apartments developed in conjunction with Ost Development G.K. in Karuizawa had sold out prior to completion.
New hotel for Akasaka-Mitsuke
Mori Trust is planning a 26-story mixed-use hotel and office tower for the corner of the Akasaka-Mitsuke intersection in Tokyo. Construction is scheduled to start in August 2022 with completion expected by February 2025.
226m tall tower for Yaesu 2 Chome
On October 26, several developers announced the formation of a redevelopment committee for a high-rise office tower to be built in front of Tokyo Station.
Renzo Piano to design replacement for Kunio Maekawa-designed building
Tokio Marine Holdings has announced that Italian architect Renzo Piano will be designing the replacement for the Tokyo Marine Nichido Insurance Building in Marunouchi, Tokyo.
