90+ year old home in Yokohama being restored
The new owner of a historic home in Yokohama is carrying out a full restoration. The Yamate 133 Ban-Kan residence was built sometime around 1930 and initially occupied by the Rising Sun Oil Corporation (a predecessor of Shell).

93-yr old bathhouse being demolished
Demolition of a historic and famous bathhouse in Kitasenju began on March 10. Daikoku-yu was one of Tokyo's leading examples of the 'miya-tsukuri' style of architecture often used for palaces, shrines, and temples, but also popular for larger bathhouses.

Nintendo hotel in Kyoto to open this April
The conversion of the historic former Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto will open as a boutique hotel this April. Called ‘Marufukurō’, it is named after Marufuku, the name of the previous corporate incarnation of Nintendo.
Tiny modernist house demolished
A 60-year old modernist home in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward has just been demolished. The ‘SH-60’ house was designed by Kenji Hirose. It had a floor area of just 29 sqm (312 sq.ft) and was designed for a famous painter and illustrator.
City acquires 1600-yr old tomb from construction company
Ichihara City in Chiba Prefecture has acquired a large parcel of land that includes an ancient ‘kofun’ burial mound thought to have been built sometime in the 4th century.
