The conversion of the historic former Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto will open as a boutique hotel this April. Called ‘Marufukurō’, it is named after Marufuku, the name of the previous corporate incarnation of Nintendo.
The all-inclusive hotel will have 18 luxuriously-appointed guest suites with nightly rates expected to range from 60,000 ~ 226,000 Yen (US$530 ~ $1,990). Room sizes range from 33 ~ 79 sqm (355 ~ 850 sq.ft).
Designed by Tadao Ando and NOM Architectural Design Office, the 92-year old building has been carefully restored with guest rooms in both the new and old wings, a restaurant, guest gym, and baths. Nintendo fans won’t find a whole lot of iconic imagery here. The interior design has been kept minimal and in keeping with the 1930s era of the building.
The hotel is located in the Gojo district and is a block west of Kamo River.
