ORIX to open luxury ryokan in Atami next winter

ORIX Real Estate Corporation is developing a luxury ryokan in Atami’s Izusan district, with the hotel scheduled to open next winter. Atami Izusan Karaku sits on a 6,100 sqm site overlooking Sagami Bay and a 7-minute drive from Atami Station.

The 8-story building will have a total floor area of 9,151 sqm. Construction began in August 2021. All 57 rooms will have their own open-air baths.

This is the second of ORIX’s Karaku brand of high-end traditional accommodations, following the opening of the 70-room Hakone Gora Karaoke in 2020.

The new ryokan is next-door to the temporarily-closed Hoshino Resorts KAI Atami, another luxury ryokan that had a history dating back over 170 years. Hoshino took over operations of the historic property in 2012. The ryokan closed in 2019 for renovations and has since been demolished.
