The average monthly rent of a condominium-type apartment in Tokyo’s 23 wards was 3,835 Yen/sqm in June, down 0.3% from the previous month but up a slight 0.2% from last year. The average apartment size was 51.38 sqm (553 sq.ft).

Rents appeared to have peaked in the spring as university students and new hires returned to Tokyo for the start of the school and work year in April. After this moving season, it is not uncommon to see landlords adjust the rents of still-vacant apartments.

In Osaka City, the average rent was 2,708 Yen/sqm, down 1.0% from the previous month but up 9.4% from last year.
