In February, the average rent of an apartment in Tokyo’s 23 wards was up 1.1% from last year, according to Tokyo Kantei.

The average monthly rent was 3,887 Yen/sqm, increasing for the second month in a row and hitting a new high. In Saitama City, the average rent saw a year-on-year increase of 11.5% to 2,155 Yen/sqm. Chiba City has seen rents climb 14.0% over the same period to 1,886 Yen/sqm due to an increase in relatively new rentals in the more expensive central part of the city.

Tokyo Kantei’s data looks at the advertised rent of condominium-style apartments, and excludes apartments sized under 30 sqm (323 sq.ft), offices, and retail spaces.
