Plans released for Akasaka Station redevelopment

On March 14, detailed plans for the redevelopment of the Kokusai Shin-Akasaka Buildings were released. The Akasaka 2, 6 Chome District project will see two towers of 230 meters and 110 meters tall.

The 230-meter tall, 41-story East Tower will contain office and retail, while the 110-meter tall, 19-story West Tower will contain accommodation, retail, theatre and event hall. The total building size will be 210,000 sqm (2.2 million sq.ft). The East Tower will be taller than the 179-meter tall Akasaka Biz Tower located across the street, as well as the 194-meter tall Sanno Park Tower nearby. It will be about 8-meters shorter than Roppongi Hills Mori Tower.

A 1,000 sqm business support center targeting start-ups and creatives in the entertainment industry will be located in the East Tower.

The upper floors of the West Tower will have 10,000 sqm of accommodation targeting foreign travelers, domestic tourist and business travelers.

There will be direct station access from Akasaka Station, as well as an airport limousine bus and tourist bus stops.

An office town planning decision is expected later this year. Demolition of the existing office buildings will start in 2022, with completion of the new project tentatively scheduled for 2028.
