Hamamatsucho Building redevelopment kicks off after a delayed start

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Shibaura 1 Chome Project was held on September 28. This project will see the former Hamamatsucho Building replaced with two 235-meter tall towers.

Former geisha office in Tokyo to re-open next month

The historic Shibaura Kenban building in Tokyo will re-open in April after undergoing a full restoration. Built in the 1930s, this is said to be the only surviving pre-war, wood-frame ‘kenban’ in Tokyo. A kenban was traditionally an office that oversaw the operations of the geisha in the district.

Sumitomo cancels City Tower Shibaura

Sumitomo Corporation have temporarily (or permanently) cancelled the construction of City Tower Shibaura in Minato-ku. Construction of the 30-storey condominium began in November, 2010, and was scheduled to be completed by March, 2013.

Although foundation work had already began, the ground has since been filled in and returned to its vacant state and all advertising has been removed from the site. Read more
