40-storey apartment tower planned for Shirokane
The Shirokane 1 Chome West Central District Redevelopment Committee announced plans for two 40-storey high-rise apartment buildings. The development site is located on the western side of Shirokane Aer City, which includes the 43-storey, 134m tall Shirokane Tower apartment building.
The redevelopment will include a 140m tall, 40-storey residential building with 900 apartments and a 20m tall factory building. A town planning decision is expected later this year. Akasaka Twin Tower Redevelopment to be completed by 2024
Mori Trust released additional details on their Akasaka 2 Chome Project earlier this month. The mixed-use office and hotel building will be approximately 210 meters tall with 43 floors and a total floor area of 220,000 sqm (2.3 million sq ft). This is twice the height of the neighboring House of Representatives Members Housing and almost 40 meters taller than Akasaka Tower Residence. It will be similar in height to the recently completed 205m tall Akasaka Intercity Air which is located across the street.Read more
Construction starts on Aoyama Bell Commons redevelopment
Construction has started on a 20-storey commercial building on the site of the former Aoyama Bell Commons building in the Omotesando / Gaienmae area in Tokyo. Completion is due by April 2020.
The 90m tall Kita Aoyama 2 Chome Project will include retail on the first two floors, a hotel on floors 3, 4 and floors 16 through 20, and office and co-working space on floors 5 through 15. The total floor area will be 22,910 sqm, approximatley 50% larger than Aoyama Bell Commons, while the new building will be almost twice as tall.Read more
41-storey apartment tower for Sengaku-ji area
A 170 meter, 41-storey high-rise tower has been proposed for the area next-door to Sengaku-ji Temple in Tokyo’s Minato ward. If approved, construction could start in 2020 with completion by 2024.
The 18,000 sqm site is located directly to the east of the historic Sengaku-ji temple and fronts onto the Daiichi Keihin street. The new station for the JR Yamanote Loop Line will be located towards the west, on the opposite side of the street.Read more
199m tall building for Tsukishima
A 59-storey, 199m tall condominium is planned for Tsukishima - a manmade island in Tokyo Bay. A town planning decision is expected in 2018, with construction to start in 2022 and completion scheduled for 2025.
The Tsukishima 3 Chome North District Redevelopment Project will include approximately 1,120 apartments, as well as retail and childcare facilities on the lower floors.
Tokyo’s Mita 5 Chome district to see potential residential redevelopment
Residents of a 1.1 hectare block of densely-packed homes in the Mita 5 Chome neighbourhood in central Tokyo have formed a redevelopment committee with the goal of turning the site into a high-rise apartment building.
Approximately 70% of the 110 landowners are participating in the redevelopment, with Sumitomo chosen as the project partner. A town planning decision is expected in 2018.
Historic Kudan Kaikan redevelopment plans announced
On September 21st, the Kanto Local Finance Bureau announced that Tokyu Land had won the competitive bidding process for the redevelopment of the Kudan Kaikan building in central Tokyo. The bidding price will be announced after Tokyu signs the contractural agreement in March 2018.
The developer will lease the 8,700 sqm block of land under a 70-year fixed term and will build a high-rise office tower on the site. The north-eastern corner of the original Kudan Kaikan building will be preserved and retrofitted using a base-isolation system (menshin-kozo).
