Historic 103-yr old hotel in Kobe sold
On March 7, Sanyo Electric Railway announced the sale of the historic former Maiko Hotel in Kobe City.
Subscription-type cabins open by Lake Yamanaka
A subscription-type holiday home development near Lake Yamanaka at Mt. Fuji opened on March 4. The 14 contemporary cabins are spread across a 13,000 sqm site and are a 10-minute walk from the shore.
Hyatt Regency Tokyo on the market for 100 billion Yen
On February 28, the Nikkei Shimbun newspaper reported that the Odakyu Electric Railway company is considering the sale of the Hyatt Regency Tokyo hotel. The total sale proceeds of the hotel, along with partial ownership of a neighboring office building, could be in the 100 billion Yen (approx. US$870 million) range. Several funds have already expressed interest.
Seibu to sell hotels for US$1.3 billion
Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC has emerged as the potential buyer for the majority of Seibu Holdings’ hotel portfolio. Around 30 of Seibu’s hotels are expected to be sold for somewhere around 150 billion Yen (approx. US$1.3 billion).
Nintendo hotel in Kyoto to open this April
The conversion of the historic former Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto will open as a boutique hotel this April. Called ‘Marufukurō’, it is named after Marufuku, the name of the previous corporate incarnation of Nintendo.
155m tall tower for Dogenzaka, Shibuya
On January 19, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government approved the formation of the redevelopment committee for the Dogenzaka 2 Chome South District Redevelopment. This will see a 155-meter tall tower built near the west exit of Shibuya Station on the Inokashira Line.
Abandoned hotel worries worsen in Nikko
Several dangerously dilapidated and abandoned hotels in Nikko’s Kinugawa onsen district have the city concerned.
The city has identified 16 abandoned hotels and ryokans in need of action. Three hotels have fallen into a dangerous level of disrepair, with the owners nowhere to be found. The 8 and 10-story concrete buildings are located on cliffside land between Kinugawa River and the national highway and have been closed for 10 ~ 20 years.
