Mail-order company Belluna has emerged as the buyer of two hotels in Hokkaido from Karakami Hotels & Resorts for an undisclosed price. Karakami will stay on as the operator of the hotels.

The two hotels acquired by Belluna are Toya Sun Palace Resort & Spa and the neighboring The Lake Suite Ko-No-Sumika. Both front onto Lake Toya and have a total of 404 rooms. Kawakami sold a third hotel, New Akan Hotel on Lake Akan, to a private buyer.

The three hotels have a total of 800 rooms. The sale contracts were signed on March 8, with delivery to take place on March 31.

Karakami is switching its focus from larger resort-type hotels to small and mid-sized high-priced hotels. In 2021, the company sold its 600-room Jozankei View Hotel in the Jozankei hot spring district to Belluna. The company still owns four hotels in Miyagi and Wakayama prefectures.
