On May 1, real estate developer Mori Trust announced the acquisition of 2,300 sqm of land in Kyoto’s Gion district with the aim of creating a luxury hotel of an international standard.
The property includes an older ryokan-style hotel that will be demolished. It adjoins Daiunin Temple, which houses the graves of Oda Nobunaga and Ishikawa Goemon, and is near Kodai-ji, Nene-no-michi, and Yasaka Shrine.
The developer has been expanding the opening of luxury hotels across Japan. In 2015, the company opened the Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto alongside the river in Arashiyama.
