Average rent in Tokyo takes a dip in January

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium in greater Tokyo was 2,567 Yen/sqm in January 2016, down 2.3% from the previous month but up 0.9% from January 2015. This is the first time in 5 months that the average rent has fallen below the 2,600 Yen/sqm line, and is due to both a smaller share of listings in the Tokyo metropolitan area, as well as a softening of the rental market. The average apartment size was 59.70 sqm and the average building age was 19.9 years.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the average monthly rent was 3,128 Yen/sqm, down 1.2% from the previous month but up 2.6% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.46 sqm and the average building age was 18.1 years.

In Tokyo’s 23 wards, the average rent was 3,280 Yen/sqm, down 0.9% from the previous month but up 3.1% from last year. The average apartment size was 55.79 sqm and the average building age was 17.5 years.Read more


May 2015 rental data - Tokyo Kantei

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium in greater Tokyo was 2,656 Yen/sqm in May, up 2.1% from the previous month and up 1.3% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.08 sqm and the average building age was 18.7 years.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the average rent was 3,104 Yen/sqm, down 0.5% from the previous month but up 0.9% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.64 sqm and the average building age was 17.3 years.

In Tokyo’s 23 wards, the average rent was 3,229 Yen/sqm, down 0.3% from the previous month but up 1.0% from last year.

In Chiba City, the average rent has been in a downwards trend since the start of the year. The average rent in May was 1,439 Yen/sqm, down 0.3% from the previous month and down 9.6% from last year.Read more


October rental data - Tokyo Kantei

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,602 Yen/sqm in October, up 1.0% from the previous month and up 2.8% from last year. This is the first time in four months that the rent has exceeded 2,600 Yen/sqm. The average apartment size was 60.20 sqm and the average building age was 19.2 years.

The average monthly rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,233 Yen/sqm, up 0.8% from the previous month and up 4.9% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.74 sqm and the average building age was 17.4 years. Starting with Tokyo’s central 6 wards, almost all areas in the 23 wards have been seeing either stable or strong growth in rent.

Yokohama City is seeing a continued downwards trend. In Kobe City, the average building age increased from 19.9 years to 21.3 years, which caused a corresponding drop in average rent.Read more

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,621 Yen/sqm in May, down 0.6% from the previous month but up 3.6% from last year. This is the first time in three months that the month-on-month change in rent has declined. The average apartment size was 59.17 sqm and the average building age was 18.4 years.

The average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,197 Yen/sqm, down 0.2% from the previous month but up 3.6% from last year. This is the first time in six months to see a month-on-month drop in rent. The average apartment size was 56.28 sqm and the average building age was 16.5 years.Read more

According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,601 Yen/sqm in March, up 1.5% from the previous month and up 2.4% from March 2013. The average apartment size was 59.50 sqm and the average building age was 18.5 years.

The average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,191 Yen/sqm, up 1.3% from the previous month and up 3.6% from last year.
