A Six Senses resort is coming to Niseko in 2024 ~ 2025. On April 8, the Hokkaido Shimbun newspaper reported that IHG Hotels & Resorts is planning the luxury hotel for the Hirafu district.

The 100-room hotel will be 700 meters south-east of the Grand Hirafu ski slopes. Approximately 11,000 sqm of land has been purchased for the development.

Niseko, along with many inbound-dependent tourist areas in Japan, has been struggling with the lack of foreign tourists due to the pandemic. However, this has not stopped the pace of development with hotel and resort developers anticipating demand to return once international travel resumes.

Recent and up-coming projects in Niseko:

  • A Capella-branded resort is planned for the Hanazono district in 2024 ~ 2025
  • Hong-Kong based Apex Property is planning the 16.8 hectare Hana Creek villas and hotels
  • Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono opened in January 2020
  • A 230-room Nikko hotel is planned for Hanazono
  • Higashiyama Niseko Village, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve opened in December 2020
