This is a 1950s two-story home in Shibuya’s Maruyamacho neighborhood. The wooden house was built in 1959 and underwent a renovation in 2018. It has two rooms, and a kitchen/dining space.

During the Edo period, this was an inn district catering to travelers on the old Oyama Road. From the late 1800s it was transformed into a geisha quarter. In 1913 there were 24 geisha houses, 60 geisha, and 137 tea houses. By 1921 the number of geisha houses had increased to 137, with 402 geisha, and 96 tea houses. In more recent decades these traditional geisha houses and restaurants have been demolished to make way for newer developments. These days it is a bar, restaurant, and hourly love-motel district.
