The average monthly rent for a condominium-type apartment across greater Tokyo in 2019 was 2,886 Yen/sqm, up 4.5% from 2018. This was primarily due to an increase in rents within the Tokyo metropolitan area, while Yokohama City saw rents fall.

The average monthly rent in Tokyo’s 23 wards reached 3,652 Yen/sqm in 2019, up 4.3% from 2018 and up 16.2% from 2010. Rents in Yokohama dropped for the second year in a row with a 0.5% decline in 2019. Rents are only up 1.7% from 2010.

Osaka City saw a minimal increase of 0.2% in 2019, although the average rent has increased by 25.2% since 2010.
