On November 8, developers Mitsubishi Estate and Tokyo Century Corporation announced that Dorchester Collection will be operating an ultra-luxury hotel in the 390-meter tall Torch Tower near Tokyo Station. The hotelier is owned by the Brunei Investment Agency and operates The Beverly Hills Hotel, Plaza Athénée in Paris, and The Dorchester in London, to name a few.
The Tokyo Torch project comprises the 212-meter, 38-story Tokiwabashi Tower, completed in 2021, and the 390-meter, 62-story Torch Tower, scheduled for completion in 2027. It will be Japan’s tallest building upon completion.
The hotel is planned for a total floor space of 21,400 sqm with 110 rooms on floors 53 to 58. A pool, spa and gym will be on the 54th floor, with the lobby located on the ‘Sky Hill’ floor. In January of this year, Mitsubishi announced that floors 59 and 60 would contain the district’s first luxury rental apartments, with the largest apartment expected to be around 400 sqm (4,300 sq.ft). Residents in the rental apartments may be able to enjoy services provided in conjunction with the hotel.
Dorchester will join other luxury hotel brands recently entering Japan, including the Bulgari Hotel Tokyo, scheduled to open in Tokyo Midtown Yaesu in April 2023, and The Waldorf Astoria Tokyo Nihonbashi, scheduled to open in 2026. A few months ago, Swire Properties’ The House Collective was announced as the hotel occupant for the Shibuya Upper West Project due for completion in 2027.
