The MELSA Ginza-2 department store will be closing permanently this August, ending 51-years of operations.
The store opened in 1971 in cooperation with Galeries Lafayette – a French department store chain. It was the second MELSA-branded store developed by the Meitetsu Group. The first opened in front of Nagoya Station in 1967.
The decision was made not to renew the building lease this year due to the long-term effects of the pandemic. Meitetsu will continue operating its EXITMELSA shopping mall located a few blocks away.
The name MELSA stands for Meitetsu Elegance Ladies Shopping Avenue.
