Earlier this month, Hilton announced the signing of an agreement with Tokyo Tatemono to open the first flagship-branded hotel in Kyoto in 2024. The Hilton Kyoto will be located in the Kawaramachi Sanjo district.

The 313-room hotel will have rooms sized around 40 sqm, along with restaurants, bars, a gym, indoor pool, banquet and function rooms. Interiors will be designed by Hashimoto Yukio Design Studio. Hashimoto’s designs have included The Peninsula Tokyo, Conrad Osaka, nol kyoto sanjo, Hilton Niseko Village, and the Musashi by Aman restaurant in Tokyo.

The hotel is being built on the site of the former KYOTO Royal Hotel & SPA. The 355-room hotel opened in 1972. Tokyo Tatemono acquired the trust beneficiary rights to the property in 2017 and announced its closure in 2018 due to the age of the building and its facilities. In the Edo period, this site was the Kyoto villa of the daimyo of the Tsushima Fuchu domain.

This will be Hilton’s third development in Kyoto, after opening Roku Kyoto in 2021, and the Hilton Garden Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma later this year.
