On June 16, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government approved the land rights transfer proposal for the Nishi Shinjuku 5 Chome Central South District Redevelopment. This development will see several blocks of low-rise buildings replaced with a 40-story apartment tower.
Mitsui Fudosan Residential is leading the redevelopment. The new high-rise tower will have 470 apartments as well as a commercial component. Construction is scheduled to start later this year with completion by 2024. Initial plans were for a 43-story tower to be completed by 2020.
In 2014 this district was designated as a fireproof promotion area due to the densely-packed older wooden homes lining the narrow streets.
The 5,922 sqm site is on the southern side of The Parkhouse Nishi-Shinjuku Tower 60, a 208-meter tall, 60-story apartment tower completed in 2017.
