Nomura Real Estate Development is in the process of building a wood-frame hybrid condominium in Tokyo’s Ochanomizu district.

Proud Kanda Surugadai is a 14-story, 36 unit condominium due for completion in March 2021. This is the first wood-frame hybrid condominium over 10 stories to have been built in Japan.

Structural elements, such as pillars, are made from wood materials sourced domestically. Floors 2 to 11 will incorporate laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and reinforced concrete walls, while floors 12 to 14 will use cross-laminated timber (CLT). Planning and construction is being carried out by Takenaka Corporation.

The apartments range in size from 48.51 to 79.66 sqm (522 ~ 857 sq.ft). The land is fixed-term leasehold, expiring in 2083. Sales are scheduled to begin in May 2020.
