The Shibuya Parco Store is going to be redeveloped as part of the Udagawacho 15 District Redevelopment Project.
The new building will be 29 storeys and 110 meters tall. It will contain retail space the first 8 floors, with rental office space on floors 9 and above. Construction will start in March 2017 with completion scheduled for late 2019.
The original Shibuya Parco buildings included:
- Parco Part 1, which is the 9-storey building located on the corner of Koen Dori Street. It opened in 1973. The PARCO Theatre is located on the 9th floor, with retail tenants on lower floors.
- Parco Part 2 was located across the street. The building was owned by a medical company, but Parco leased the first six floors of the building since it was completed in 1975. The building was later found to be below current earthquake-resistant standards and Parco moved out in 2007. A later building inspection found that the concrete strength was unusually low and there were some concerns that the building may not have even been built to correct standards at the time of construction. It was demolished in 2013. The site will not form part of the new redevelopment. Hulic acquired the site in early 2015 and are planning to invest 16.5 billion Yen in developing a retail building.
- Parco Part 3 is connected to Part 1 via a pedestrian bridge. It is 8-storeys and was opened in 1981.
