According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,575 Yen/sqm in September, up 0.5% from the previous month and up 1.2% from last year. The average apartment size was 60.01 sqm and the average building age was 19.3 years.

The average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,207 Yen/sqm, up 1.3% from the previous month and up 3.6% from last year. The average apartment size was 57.02 sqm and the average building age was 17.4 years.

Average monthly rent per sqm in September 2014:

  • Tokyo 23-ku: 3,207 Yen (+1.3% from August; +3.6% from September 2013)
  • Yokohama City: 2,142 Yen (-1.3%; -0.4%)
  • Saitama City: 1,778 Yen (-0.8%; -2.1%)
  • Chiba City: 1,444 Yen (-2.4%; -3.9%)
  • Osaka City: 2,168 Yen (+0.4%; -0.4%)
  • Kobe City: 1,803 Yen (-0.1%; +1.0%)
  • Nagoya City: 1,692 Yen (-0.1%; +3.5%)

*Data is based on the average advertised rent of family-type condominiums which may be higher than actual rent after negotiations. It does not include apartments less than 30 sqm in size, commercial or retail spaces.
