According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo in February was 2,563 Yen/sqm, down 0.4% from the previous month but up 1.1% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.31 sqm and the average building age was 19.0 years.

The average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,149 Yen/sqm, up 0.1% from the previous month and up 2.6% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.23 sqm and the average building age was 17.5 years.

Average monthly rent per sqm in February 2014:

  • Tokyo 23-ku: 3,149 Yen/sqm (+0.1% from January; +2.6% from February 2013)
  • Yokohama City: 2,174 Yen/sqm (+1.2%; +1.7%)
  • Saitama City: 1,784 Yen/sqm (-1.8%; -1.8%)
  • Chiba City: 1,545 Yen/sqm (+4.3%; +7.1%)
  • Osaka City: 2,200 Yen/sqm (+0.4%; +3.3%)
  • Kobe City: 1,826 Yen/sqm (+1.1%; +5.2%)
  • Nagoya City: 1,720 Yen/sqm (+3.4%; +3.7%)

*Data is based on the average advertised rent of family-type condominiums which may be higher than actual rent after negotiations. It does not include apartments less than 30 sqm in size, commercial or retail spaces.
