According to Tokyo Kantei, the average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo was 2,531 Yen/sqm in October, down 0.6% from the previous month, but up 2.8% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.14 sqm (636 sqft) and the average building age was 18.9 years.

In Tokyo’s 23-ku, the average monthly rent was 3,081 Yen/sqm, down 0.5% from last month but up 3.4% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.03 sqm (603 sqft) and the average building age was 17.6 years.

Rents in Osaka City are up 13.4% from last year to 2,179 Yen/sqm.

Average monthly rent per sqm by area:

  • Tokyo 23-ku: 3,081 Yen (-0.5% from September; +3.4% from October 2012)
  • Yokohama City: 2,151 Yen (0.0%; -0.3%)
  • Saitama City: 1,823 Yen (+0.3%; +1.7%)
  • Chiba City: 1,527 Yen (+1.7%; +4.5%)
  • Osaka City: 2,179 Yen (+0.1%; +13.4%)
  • Kobe City: 1,813 Yen (+1.5%; +5.1%)
  • Nagoya City: 1,612 Yen (-1.3%; +2.5%)
