August rental data – Tokyo Kantei

The average monthly rent of a condominium apartment in greater Tokyo in August was 2,549 Yen/sqm, up 0.6% from last month and up 3.3% from last year. The average apartment size was 59.35 sqm (639 sqft) and the average apartment age was 18.7 years.

The average rent in Tokyo’s 23-ku was 3,096 Yen, down 1 Yen from last month but up 3.3% from last year. The average apartment size was 56.13 sqm (604 sqft) and the average age was 17.4 years.

Average monthly rent/sqm by area:

  • Tokyo 23-ku: 3,096 Yen (0% from July; +3.3% from August 2012)
  • Yokohama City: 2,160 Yen (+1.4%; -0.1%)
  • Saitama City: 1,793 Yen (-0.7%; +1.8%)
  • Chiba City: 1,507 Yen (+2.0%; +2.3%)
  • Osaka City: 2,109 Yen (+0.7%; +9.2%)
  • Kobe City: 1,849 Yen (-0.2%; +7.9%)
  • Nagoya City: 1,631 Yen (-0.6%; +2.3%)

*Data is based on the average advertised rent of a condominium which may be higher than the rent after negotiations. It does not include apartments less than 30 sqm in size, commercial or retail spaces.
