Prince Hotel Gamagori sold

Kuretakeso, a hotel and wedding hall developer based in Hamamatsu City, announced that they will be acquiring the Prince Hotel Gamagori from the Prince Hotel chain. The hotel will be handed over on March 30, 2012, and the name will be changed to Gamagori Classic Hotel. The hotel will be revamped as a resort hotel and will also be used for wedding ceremonies. The total investment, including renovations to the rooms, is estimated at 1 billion Yen.

Kuretakeso is aiming to increase revenue from their wedding and religious ceremonies by 50% to 250 million Yen. They also plan to reduce hotel room rates by 20% in order to increase occupancy. The goal for the first year is to return the hotel to profit with an estimated turnover of 700 million Yen.

In addition to this hotel, Prince Hotel also announced that they will be selling the Oku Biwako Makino Prince Hotel (Saga Prefecture) to Macearth Resort for an undisclosed sum.

History of the Gamagori Hotel:

The hotel was originally called “Gamagori Yuenchi Hotel” and was built in 1934 as part of the government’s plan to promote the development of international tourist facilities. It has hosted many well-known authors and members of the Imperial Family. Following the oil crisis in the 1970s, the hotel closed its doors in 1980. In 1987, it was reopened under management by the Prince Hotel group.

The traditional castle-style of construction led the building to be officially recognized as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in 2007.
