Shirokanedai, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Shirokanedai Front is a 14-storey apartment building that adjoins the historic Happo-en garden and function facility.
The building has just 21 spaciously-sized apartments. It was designed by Archi Site Mobius and completed in 2002.
This is a large 3-Bedroom corner apartment on the 11th floor. It is south-east, south-west and north-west facing and includes a private rooftop terrace overlooking Happo-en, a gas fire place, two bathrooms, three walk-in closets, a storage closet, laundry room, floor heating in the living/dining, and a kitchen with dishwasher and oven.
Ceiling heights are up to 2600mm in the living/dining, and 2500mm in the bedroom. Glass windows in the bedrooms on the Meguro Street-side are sound-proofed.
This is the only apartment on the 11th floor.
Two car spaces are included.
In the Edo period this site was originally the mansion of Okubo Hikozaemon. It later became the Daimyo residence for the Satsuma Domain, then the villa for the Shimazu clan. In the Meiji period it was the home of Seiichiro Shibusawa, an industrialist and cousin of Eiichi Shibusawa, the ‘father of Japanese capitalism’ and founder of what is now Mizuho Bank. The current building and 40,000 sqm grounds were created in 1915 for Fusanosuke Kuhara, entrepreneur and politician. After WWII, Kuhara converted his home into a traditional Japanese restaurant that would appeal to foreign visitors.
There are only six residential buildings that border onto Happo-en’s estate:
- Homat Capital (condominium): 70 apartments.
- The Green House Shirokanedai (condominium): 8 apartments.
- Hiyoshizaka Flats (rental only).
- Grand Hills Shirokanedai (condominium): 55 apartments.
- Shirokanedai Front (condominium): 21 apartments.
- Quality House Shirokanedai (condominium): 13 apartments.
