The Seijo neighborhood is one of Japan’s famous high-end residential areas and is similar in some aspects to Denenchofu. The subdivision was developed in the early 1920s, with Seijogakuen-mae Station opening in 1927. The Seijo Charter has imposed strict building requirements on landowners, including requiring hedges as fences and banning basements. This has helped to largely preserve the attractive streetscape and greenery.
