 ABOUT

This is a large block of beachfront land on the Manazuru Peninsula in south-west Kanagawa Prefecture. It is 91 km south of Shibuya (approximately 1h 40mins by car depending on traffic).

The hillside block of land is a little over 3 acres in size and fronts directly onto a small rocky beach. Unlike the majority of the coastline, this land does not have a highway running between it and the ocean, ensuring quiet, privacy and easy access to the water. The beachfront is currently used by local fishermen, with access by stairs and a pathway only.

The land has road access via a 3 ~ 4 meter wide public road running along the eastern side towards the top of the block.

There are currently two small houses on the land to be included with the sale, but the homes are not in suitable condition for occupying. Building heights apply in this area (maximum building height of 10 meters), and other regulations will apply to new construction.

The land is south facing and is between 7 and 48 meters above sea level. The beach in front of this land falls within Kanagawa Prefecture’s tsunami hazard zone.

About Manazuru:

Manazuru is a coastal town located just north of Atami and south of Odawara. It is 81 minutes direct on the JR Tokaido Line Rapid from Shimbashi Station in downtown Tokyo, or 49 minutes from Shinagawa Station using the Shinkansen and Tokaido Lines (changing trains in Odawara).

The Manazuru Peninsula has steep, hilly cliff-fronts with pine, camphor, beech and other evergreen trees, ferns and thickly overgrown native forest. At the end of the peninsula is Manazuru Cape – a local sightseeing spot in Kanagawa. Sagami Bay stretches from Manazuru Cape eastwards over to the Miura Peninsula.

In 1994 the Manazuru Town Planning Ordinance was introduced to control development of resort apartments. The aim of the ordinance is to protect the scenic beauty of the town and coastline. Buildings or land developments over a certain size and scale require development permission. This was one of the earliest town planning ordinances in Japan and became a leading example for the rest of the country.

Before the opening of the Tokaido Train Line, the town was serviced by hand-cars and field railways that ran along the old Atami Railroad from 1896 to 1923.
