On January 30, Mitsubishi Estate and Tokyo Broadcasting System Holdings (TBS) announced the formation of business agreement for the redevelopment of the Kokusai Shin-Akasaka Buildings (East, West and Annex). These office towers are located just above Akasaka Station and across the street from Akasaka Biz Tower and the TBS TV Studios.

The redevelopment project aims to create a new international business and media hub in central Tokyo. The scale and schedule of the project has yet to be decided but it is expected to be completed by around 2029.

The project site covers 13,900 sqm. The three older office buildings to be demolished include the Kokusai Shin-Akasaka East Building (24-storey, built in 1980), the West Building (18-storey, built in 1980) and the Annex Building (11-storey, built in 2003). The East and West twin tower buildings were originally built by Kokusai Motor Co., Ltd., the km Group taxi company. The company sold the buildings and land in 2004 to US Fund, Lone Star, for 120 billion Yen. Lone Star then sold the property in March 2011 to Mitsubishi for an estimated 90 billion Yen.
