Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts has chosen Kyoto City as the location of their first hotel in Japan.

The hotel will be a redevelopment of the former Hotel Ryozen in Higashiyama ward. Hotel Ryozen was built in the 1960s and 1980s and had 29 guest rooms. It is a 650 meters walk to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and 1 kilometer from the Gion district. Several years ago we introduced this property to our clients who, unfortunately, passed on the opportunity.

Banyan Tree’s Kyoto hotel will be designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma. The 60-room hotel is expected to open in 2022. One of the stand-out features of the new hotel will be hot spring facilities, making it the only luxury hotel with an onsen in the historic city.

The Park Hyatt Kyoto is scheduled to open nearby later this year.
