Hotel Management International (HMI Hotel Group) will acquire the Yamaha Resort Tsumagoi in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka, in March. The seller is Yamaha Corporation. The sale price has not been announced.

Yamaha closed the resort on December 25, 2016, due to aging buildings and a decline in guest numbers. HMI will re-open the resort as Tsumagoi Resort Sai-no-sato on April 1.

Tsumagoi first opened in 1974. The 140 hectare property includes tennis courts, accommodation and hot spring facilities. The resort was famous for its Yamaha Popular Song Contest, also known as Popcorn, which was a folk and rock music contest held each year.
