Yokohama Kitanakadori North Redevelopment A-4 1

Mitsui Fudosan Residential, Marubeni and Mori Building have announced plans for a 58-storey hotel and condominium for downtown Yokohama. The 199.95m tall tower will contain approximately 1,200 apartments, with a hotel occupying several of the upper floors. Construction is scheduled to start in October 2016, with completion by January 2020. This will be the largest residential project over 100 meters tall in Yokohama since 2000.

The 13,000 sqm construction site is located in front of Bashamichi Station on the Minato-Mirai Line, and is approximately 2.3km from Yokohama Station and 1.5km from Yokohama’s Chinatown.

The site was originally home to the Teisan Silk Warehouse which was built in 1926. There were originally four warehouses, although only one is still standing. This warehouse will be demolished, with the exterior to be reconstructed as part of the high-rise project.

Residential apartments will be located on floors 5 ~ 45 and 52 ~ 58, while the hotel will be located on floors 46 ~ 51. The lower floors will contain retail facilities.

Mixed-use hotel and condominium developments are quite unusual in Japan. Mori Building’s Toranomon Hills development in central Tokyo is one of the most recent examples. The Toranomon Hills complex, completed in 2014, contains residential rental and condominium-apartments on several floors, and the Andaz Hotel on the top floors. Residents and hotel guests can share the spa, pool and gym facilities.
